Summer/Fall: Spend a day hiking on the Appalachian Trail and Merck Forest. The shopping
at the outlet shops in Manchester
is a legendary mecca for the serious or not-so-serious shopper (who can pass up a quality
bargain?), you can also tour Hildene while
you're there. There's also horseback riding at one of two area stables. And, pack a picnic lunch and visit some
of Vermont's famous covered bridges.

There are many fine restaurants in Manchester (20 minutes). A few recommendations
include Mulligans, Perfect Wife, Ye Olde Tavern, Maxwells Flat Road Grill, and
Zoey's Deli.
And some in Rutland (25 minutes). Recommendations include Little Harry's. Note
that all restaurants may have reduced days and hours between November and May.
Reservations are recommended in the Summer months and in October.
